Every appointment ends. The questions don't.

Espinosa Health was started by a physician who kept seeing patients and families doing their best with fifteen-minute appointments and confusing paperwork. The system assumes you already know how it all works.

Why we exist

Sometimes medical staff don't have enough time to break down complex topics. They may use clinical language that's difficult to understand, or simply not fully explain what they're talking about. We want to give you that time. We sit down with you after your appointment, and explain concepts in plain language.

Plus, we're here to help you figure out what to do next, and to communicate with family, so no one is left behind. Additionally, we can point you toward support programs you may not know about and explain how they work.

We work alongside your medical team and never replace it.

What we can help you with

Based on your care team's findings, we break down what their reports say. We can explain concepts related to your diagnosis, your lab results (e.g. blood work) and doctor's notes. We answer questions like, "How does this affect daily life?" or, "What practical things can I do?"

You can request support for interfamily communication. Our team sits down with you and your family member(s) to facilitate dialogue between all parties.

We can find resources for you, and help you apply for services.

The physician behind Espinosa Health

Dr. Heidi Espinosa, MD is a physician registered in Mexico. She offers health education to patients and families in Ontario.

In her own words:

"I bring a whole-person approach to understanding health. Rather than thinking about symptoms in isolation, I take the time to see the full picture, including subjects typically included in medical records, test results, and personal concerns, and translate that complexity into clear knowledge.

I started supporting people in these phases of their journey because I lacked that support myself, particularly when managing my mother's health alongside her medical team and my family. My goal is to ensure you leave every session feeling informed, prepared, and heard."

How we work

We're here to explain medical topics and talk about health from a patient-centered point of view.

  • If something we say isn't clear, we'll explain it a different way until it is
  • You decide what we talk about. Bring your questions and we'll work through them at your pace
  • We'll tell you clearly when a question belongs with your own doctor
  • Sessions are virtual, by video or phone
You can meet with us once or on an ongoing basis, on your own or with your family
